“Cladding”
the application of one material over another to provide a skin or layer.

Cladding is an installation that brings together Charys Wilson & Hazel O’Sullivan here in Catalyst Arts to look at the concern in how material qualities are sensed, interpreted and understood to form space.

The installation responds to our collective thoughts on materials and how we blur the boundaries between memory, light and object, encouraging the audience to develop their own thoughts on how we facilitate comfort within our interior and exterior worlds.

For this show in Catalyst in 2023, I created 3 new works.

One largescale site specific installation, situated in front of the floor to ceiling windows of the gallery space, titled ‘Between Leaves’.

This installation transformed the window into a translucent wall, harnessing the natural light, with a blacked out window in the middle. This dark window was made using glass from old televisions. Within the walls were handmade plants, made from recycled wire and paper.

Located in Joys Entry (a busy passage way in Belfast) this piece would capture the shadows of passers by and reflect areas of light.
